Welcome to the Custom Shop.  While we would like to think that every call we make at Severen & Severen Ltd. is custom, there are attributes for which our customers would like to have incorporated in to their calls to make them unique to their personality.  It is here where we like to say, “Limitation is only to that of the human imagination”. So, if you have something special you would like to have embellished into a Custom Shop call, we would enjoy hearing from you.

Our custom shop is equipped with two master craftsman who’s combined talent of wood carving “by hand” spans over 30 years.  We do not offer CNC machining or Laser engraving, as we prefer to do the old fashioned way, completely by hand, giving our customers calls that are in every way, shape and form, masterful works of art.

 We specialize in the insetting and hand engraving of precious metals, along with inlay work of ivory, horn and  wood veneers.  We can work with you to identify a  figure and/or pattern of desire, to create an artistic masterpiece of your dreams.

Probably one of the most requested Custom Shop options for our calls is the lamination of accent wood caps on our call stoppers and/or barrels.  With the majority of cap accents coming in the form of ebony, we can laminate just about anything including but not limited to ivory, metal and horn.  If you have an idea you’d like to run by us, please feel free to call, write or email.

Whether your interest in having decorative precious or semi-precious metal inlay work done on one of our calls with ornate engraving, or having a simple oval escutcheon inlayed and engraved with your initials, we will be happy to meet your request.  All of our engraving is done completely by hand, giving your call the personality and “Old World” charm unmatched by any modern laser-engraving machine.

As one would find on a bespoke Holland & Holland, Purdey & Son, or Boss shotgun, all hand checkering is executed at 24 LPI (lines per inch) to  allow the wood underneath the ability to display it's grain pattern while creating an unparalleled personalized statement.

Our Custom Shop usually maintains a vast selection of specialty and exotic grade woods from which our customers can choose to have their calls made from.  Some of the species we typically carry in our inventory include: Amboyna, English Walnut, Black Walnut, Claro Walnut, Maple (curly & burl), Hawaiian Koa, Pollyanna, African Blackwood, Gabon Ebony, Macassar Ebony, Black & White Asian Ebony, Pink Ivory, Cocobolo, Kingwood, Purpleheart, Redheart, Tulipwood, Lacewood, Sapele, Bocote, Zebrawood, Ironwood and Olivewood.  Our selection changes daily, so we kindly request that you first contact us first to confirm availability of desired spices. 

Some of the woods in our inventory many still be classified as green (having a moisture content greater then 8%), in which case a customer may place 50% deposit on a specimen for a future call build.

Please note that due to allergic reactions, we “do not” craft calls from Rosewood (Brazilian, Bolivian, Honduran & East Indian) or Satinwood.

Due the abundance of options and customization we offer our customers from the Custom Shop, each call is quoted separately based on wood selection and desired embellishment.  All orders require 50% deposit prior to the commencement of work, with remaining balance due in 30 days upon customer invoicing for completion of work order.   Any order requiring personalized engraving (e.g., initials, family crest, business logo, etc.) will require payment in full prior to execution of engraving.
